I have a Maytag Neptune MAH6500 washing machine that started making a loud noise when going into the spin cycle. From the research that I have done, it sounds like this is the tub bear that needs to be replaced. Are there any special tools required to replace the bearing and what other parts will need to be replaced while replacing the bearing?
Your model number that you posted is not complete, it is missing a few digits at the end. If the bearings are bad you need to replace both bearings, seal, and sometimes the spyder shaft depending on how long it has been running with the bad bearings. You will need a way to press the new bearings into the tub without damaging them.
The complete model number is MAH6500AWW.
Can both bearings and seal be purchased as a kit? Is the shaft part of the tub kit? My local appliance dealer stated that due to the cost of the repair most people purchase a new washer. As for the bearing tool, I think I can make something or locate the one I have seen on the web for this.
