What part do I need to fix this problem? Is it a micro switch that I can purchase. I've seen information on the web that indicates it could be the control board but don't want to replace that if it isn't necessary. Can you advise?
A constant clicking sound coming from the back of the refrigerator is usually a sign of a bad control board on these refrigerators. The micro switch is not very common to fail, usually if you hear a distinct click when you press the dispenser, then the switch is most likely good. You would need to do a continuity test on the switch to verify that 100%. The other thing on these models that happens quite often is the wire harness at the bottom of the door (you usually have to remove the bottom grill to access it) is common to corrode and cause the dispenser to stop working. You could also have multiple problems, if the harness shorted out, it could have caused the control board to fail.
