    I agree that redoing the vent through the roof would be expensive and may not even be possible.
    Also it may not solve the problem.

    I would clean out the drain trap.
    Clean the tub seal with a 10% bleach solution. Be sure to wear old clothes.
    Then try Affresh.

    Also check that water is not being left in the bottom of the tub....
