Installed WR55X10942 board, fridge turns off a few hours later

    Model Number:
    Brand: GE
    Age: 1-5 years

So I installed a new WR55X10942 board in a GE side by side and it will cool down to the set temperature and the display works fine, but at some point(hours later) I will have no power to the display(no green light) and the compressor will not kick back on. I left the fridge plugged in when it did this, and just unplugged the 5 pin connector on the motherboard and it fired right back up. Any thoughts? Bad new motherboard or is it the display?

I have also just tried unplugging the fridge itself, but the problem repeats. I just want to know what the 5 pin connector might imply, since it fired up right after I unhooked it. Also, will it operate correctly without the 5 pin connected?

    Thanks

Can I have you check the wiring at the bottom of the freezer door for any broken or corroded wires?

wiring looks good. Plugged in and no corrosion. Fridge is just over a year old, everything looks new. I let the fridge run overnight without the 5 pin connected and it never shut off like it previously did with it in.

What kind of problem were you having with the original control board?

Had a bad surge and when power came back on the display was flashing/scrolling zeros and the compressor would only turn on for a few seconds after I unplugged and replugged it. The replacement board has been running for a day now with the 5 pin connector unplugged and seems to be cooling fine, I just can't use the display.

If the power surge was bad enough, it could have burned out both of the control board. Either of the two control boards or a wiring issue could cause this type of problem. If you think the control board that you received is defective, you can read about the part warranty information here. We see a very low defect rate on the new control boards, so I would guess the problem probably is with the interface control board. Let me know what you end up finding causing the problem.

This is the dispenser interface control board for your model:
