LIghtning may have fried circuit board or surge protector, if there is one.

    Model Number: RS261MDWP
    Brand: Samsung
    Age: 1-5 years

Is there a test to determine if circuit board needs to be replaced? And could there be a surge protector that could be replaced?

It is a side by side refrigerator.

The frig does not power up. There is a black module by the side of the circuit board that appears that it may be a surge protector... I could not get current to flow through it with my ohm meter.
Can it be replaced before replacing the circuit board?

It sounds like you might be describing a noise filter? Could you post up a picture of the part?

I got the picture, thanks for posting it. That black module is a capacitor. It looks like it could be a run capacitor for the compressor, if you look at the schematic on the refrigerator you should be able to see what the capacitor is used for. This type of capacitor is not very common to go bad. To test a capacitor you have to use a special multimeter that has the ability to test capacitors.

Have you checked the fuse on the main control board to see if it is blown?

Does anything on the refrigerator power up or function? Or is it completely dead?
