Thread: dryer won't start

    dryer won't start

    Model Number: wed9500tw3
    Brand: Whirlpool
    Age: 1-5 years

    notice dryer wasn't drying well, but would put setting from normal to timed helped now it won't start changed thermister and thermal fuse 2 times dryer keeps blowing them. tested heating coil tested good what else should i change?

    Have you checked to see if your venting is restricted or if you have a shorted heating element?

    yes heating element check out good but I just changed the element, thermal fuse , termister. thermostat and venting is clear. changed all that ,now dyer is getting too hot don't know what else to change?

    If the dryer is still overheating and the venting is clear, then you most likely either have a shorted heating element or a bad control board. If you put the dryer on an "air dry" cycle, does it still produce heat?

    yes when dryer is just on air it still gets hot

    There are only three things that would make the dryer heat on the air dry cycle. A shorted heating element, which causes the heating element to stay on all of the time. Heating elements warp and become shorted out from poor venting. There could be a short in the wring somewhere (not very common). The only other thing that could cause the heating element to stay on would be the control board. The control board sends power to the heating element, and if it failed, it could constantly send power to the element. If your old heating element had shorted out, it could have burned out the control board.
