Amana dryer runs but no heat???

    Model Number: LEA20AW
    Brand: Amana
    Age: 6-10 years

I have an Amana dryer that runs just fine but it has no heat. I checked the heater, thermal fuse, thermostats, and they all check out ok. What else could cause my dryer not to heat ?

First with a volt meter check to make sure that you have approximately 240 volts at your power outlet. If you have power there, then take a look at where the power cord attaches to the back of the dryer, and make sure that there are no burned through wires there. If both of those things check out ok, then about the only thing left in the system that could cause that problem would be a bad timer. There should be a little piece of paper that has a wiring diagram on it when you flip up that rear console, that should tell you what terminals to check on the timer to tell if its good or bad (its usually the two thickest wires going into the timer).

I am pretty sure that the timer is bad, the two bigger wires going into the timer both have burn marks at the ends of them like they have gotten really hot.

It sounds like the contacts in the timer are bad. You will need to replace the timer and fix the burned wires by cutting off the burned portion and splicing on a good wires/connectors to fix the problem correctly.

This is the timer for your dryer:

I fixed the bad wires and put the new timer in this morning. The dryer is heating once again! My wife is going to be so happy!
