Lots of Water coming out water/ice dispense

Hi -

Fridge started running water out of the water dispenser on the door. When we opened the door, the water was now coming out of the ice maker. We had to turn power off to the unit, pull the unit, then turn the water off, to get this to stop. There was significant water flow, it was not a drip. For example, a hand towel stuffed into the ice maker area saturated within a couple minutes.

Not sure how to start troubleshooting from here and looking for some advice. Samsung web site not helpful, nor was calling them.

Posts are only editable for a short time after you make the post. It sounds like from your description of the problem that you have a bad water inlet valve. If water continues to leak into the ice maker while the refrigerator is unplugged then you will need to replace the water inlet valve. Let me know what you find.

Thanks Doc. I need to decide if I want to attempt this repair myself. I've replaced pieces of the water dispenser on a fridge door before, so this might be a step past that.
Water did stop when we turned off the power, I believe, but it may have still been leaking. The challenge of course is the limited room to pull a fridge out so you can be both behind it and in front of it. We have a tight fit with our countertop island there.

If the water stops dispensing after you unplug the refrigerator, then it probably isn't a bad water inlet valve. You will need to check to see if it does or not.

Right, it stopped when my wife turned off the fridge at the breaker.

If that is the case, then you will need to determine if there is something sending power to the water valve when its not supposed to. It could be something like a stuck dispenser switch or even a bad control board.
