[FIXED] Whirlpool Duet Steam Dryer thermal fuse keeps blowing

    Model Number: W10224602B-SP
    Brand: Whirlpool
    Age: 1-5 years

Hi I have tried everything to get my dryer to work properly but the clothes keep coming out extremely hot...
Here's what I've done thus far in this order:

    - thermal fuse was blown... replaced 2 times then
    - replaced the thermistor.. worked 1 cycle and thermal fuse blew again
    - I did vacuum the entire dyer but the thermal fuse blew again
    - replaced the heating element.. worked once and thermal fuse blew again
    - cleaned the outside vent with the drill attachment.. worked once, replaced the thermal one more time and it run for 5 cycles until the fuse blew again
    - today I replaced the Whirlpool 280148 Thermal Cut Off set (high limit fuse and thermostat) but the clothes came out so hot that I couldn't hold them in my hand

should I replace the panel now? what seems to be the problem?

    all help is much appreciated

    Alex

Which part number thermal fuse keeps blowing? The model number that you left is not a valid model number. Can you please double check it for me?

The model number that you left is not a valid model number. Can you please double check it for me? The model and serial number tag is located around the opening of the dryer with the door open.

If you run the dryer on an air dry cycle do you still get heat?

There are only three things that would make the dryer heat on the air dry cycle. A shorted heating element, which causes the heating element to stay on all of the time. Heating elements warp and become shorted out from poor venting. There could be a short in the wring somewhere (not very common). The only other thing that could cause the heating element to stay on would be the control board. The control board sends power to the heating element, and if it failed, it could constantly send power to the element. If your old heating element had shorted out, it could have burned out the control board.

The First thing to check for is to see if the heating element is shorted out. To do this you would need to have the dryer unplugged and with a multi-meter you would need to check for continuity from either side of the heating element to ground (disconnect the wires going to the heating element before making this check. The heating element must be installed in the dryer to make this check.). If you have continuity when you go to ground then the element is shorted out and will need to be replaced. Let me know what you find.

That is the only other thing I know of that would cause it to act this way unless you have a short in the wiring.

This is the main control board for your model dryer:

Hi, i replaced the control board and tested the air only cycle and it run cold (only air, finally), I also run a steam cycle and it works like a charm... with this being said, the issue was the control board and it was finally fixed, my question is: did I really need to replace the heating element, thermostat kit with high limit fuse and thermistor? by the way i replaced the thermal fuse 15 times or more.... thanks again for your help!!!

Great, I am glad this fixed your problem finally! I updated the status of your thread to FIXED. Yes the heating element and thermostat kit should have also been replaced because the element was always staying on.
