    Kenmore Dishwasher Control Panel Unresponsive

    Model Number: 665.16033402
    Brand: Sears Kenmore
    Age: 6-10 years

We have a Kenmore Dishwasher 665.16033402 from approximately 2004. I has been working faithfully until the control panel stopped working. There are no lights and no response to pressing any of the buttons. I have reset the circuit breaker in the basement, but still no response. Any idea where to start?

I see two parts that might make sense to replace:

    8193762 Thermal Fuse ~$15

    8564547 Control Board ~$95

Note: I am not technically competent to do electrical circuit tests, but feel comfortable replacing parts.

    Thanks,
    Scott

    Scott,

If you remove the bottom kickpanel on the dishwasher, there should be a tech sheet on the back side. This sheet has instructions on what to test if the dishwasher won't power up. Let me know what you find.

Thanks, I have found the Technical sheet (Part # 8535451). I have done the first one. Also, I don't think it is the door switch as it has never given us any indication of trouble.

    The recommended actions are:

No power to unit or bad connection.
    - Check fuses, circuit breakers, and junction box connections.

Loose connections in dishwasher power up circuit or between keypad(s) and control.
    1. Unplug dishwasher or disconnect power.
    2. Check resistance of all connections in power up circuit to control. Check connections between keypad(s) and control.

    - Door switch not making contact:

    ■ Faulty door latch assembly.

    ■ Faulty door switch.

    1. Unplug dishwasher or disconnect power.

    2. Measure resistance of door switch contacts while checking mechanical operation of latch assembly. Confirm switches not loose from assembly.

    Blown TCO attached to control.

    1. Unplug dishwasher or disconnect power.

    2. Measure resistance. If open, replace. If replaced more than once, replace harness as well.

NOTE: Replace any component with evidence of overheating.

Multiple open or shorted circuits in keypad.
    - See Checking Keypad Operation, page 1.

    Faulty control.
    1. Unplug dishwasher or disconnect power.

    2. Check/replace control.

Yes, it appears the fuse is blown.

Thanks for the update. If the thermal fuse continues to blow you might have another problem with the dishwasher like a bad control board, pump motor, ect.

This is the thermal fuse for your model dishwasher:
