Whirlpool Washer GVW9959KL2 drips water from the underneath

    Model Number: GVW9959KL2
    Brand: Whirlpool
    Age: 6-10 years

When washing heavy loads or few large towels, there is some water under the unit. I took out the unit, and saw that hose from pump to tub was slightly off. I made it snug all the way to end, and same for the other hose.

Unit was good for few months. Then again lately , it has been dripping some water on the floor.

What is the recommendation for this problem? Change clamps or clamps and hoses? Would some liquid teflon or something of that kind help? Also, a year ago I changed the motor/pump assembly.

    Thank you.

Can you tell where the water is leaking from? Does the washer seems noisier than normal during the spin cycle?

I see water mostly in the front of the unit, Washer sounds normal, and with normal size load it does not leak.

You may have to sit and watch it wash a load with the front of the washer off so you can see exactly where and when the water is leaking from the washer.

    Hi Doc,

That's a good idea. Do you instructions for just taking the front off?

    Thank you.

To remove the front, first unplug the washer then raise then top which will give you access to the screws to remove the front. Please see the attached instructions below.

    Hello Dr. Ryan,

Finally got around and sat in front of the washer with front off. I saw a lot of water drops being thrown out of the tub when it was agitating. Saw water all over the detergent plastic tray after washer finished the load and I lifted the top of the washer. I also saw a lot of rust on the top front of the unit .

Also, observing from the front, I see a small gap like 1/3 of inch between top of the tub and the rubber piece from the top. I guess that may be a design flaw but also understand a perfect fit is not possible as the tub moves around a lot. Also I checked all the hoses and saw no water around them so that's good.

What do you think Dr. Ryan?

    Thanks.

Does it look like that is where the water is leaking from, between that 1/3 inch gap from the rubber piece?

I would say so. Just sitting in front of it, I was getting a lot of water drops at me when the tub was bouncing around. And that's the only place I can see that water could be thrown out of the tub due to its randomness.

    Thanks.

I think that might be #12 in the attached parts diagram?
