Our KitchenAid counter depth, custom panel fridge started emitting a high pitched chirping sound 2-3 weeks ago. Following online recommendations, I removed the panel above the fridge (which houses the compressor, motor and control boards) to vacuum dust from the fan and surrounding area. No change. The sound now is a constant whine. The sound stops when the freezer or fridge door is opened, but I understand that's because the compressor stops when any door is opened. The sound appears to be originating from the control board. The fan and compressor are located left of the board, and do not seem to be causing the whine. Most online info I've found simply says it's most likely the compressor and that it is less expensive to replace the fridge. Since this one has a custom cabinetry front, and the model is discontinued, I'd much rather fix it. Any idea if it's the board, compressor, fan....?
