GE Profile Refrigerator - Howling Noise

    Model Number: PDS22MISBBB
    Brand: GE
    Age: 6-10 years

I have a GE Profile bottom freezer model that went bad over the weekend. The problem - constant clicking noise from the compressor relay, was due to a faulty controld board. GE Customer Care told me the fridge was no longer covered by warranty so I ordered and replaced the board with WR55X10492. It works and cools just fine now however, there is a prominent "howling" or "whirring" noise constantly present whenever the fridge is running. A little bit of research indicates others have experienced this same issue and it was due to a faulty control board. Is it possible my new control board is the culprit here?

If the howling or whirring noise is coming from the evaporator fan motor in the freezer then you could have a faulty control board. The control board varies and controls the speed of the fan at different times, but it is not normal if the fan is constantly changing speeds. Sometimes what we see is the fan motor going bad causes the control board to fail. In some cases it is necessary to replace to replace the control board (WR55X10942) and the evaporator fan motor (WR60X10196) at the same time to fix the problem.
