    Whirpool Frosting Up

    Model Number: GX5SHDXVQ02
    Brand: Whirlpool
    Age: 1-5 years

My Whirlpool GX5SHDXVQ02 started freezing up the coils every month or so. I defrosted but keeps coming back. I have a repair manual and did the six service tests and all passed. Really strange, recently the fridge got warm in the top and the freezer section but no frost when I removed the panel. Put all back together and it works fine...for now. I didn't do anything but turn off the power. Someone suggested a bad control panel. Your thoughts?

There are three defrost components on your model refrigerator, the control board, defrost thermostat, and defrost heater. The defrost heater is not common to fail on these refrigerators. Both the defrost thermostat or control board can act up intermittently. Let me know what you find.

These are the parts for your refrigerator:

    Control Board - 12784415

    Defrost Thermostat - W10165425
