My original ice maker "died" years ago; so I replaced it... and the "new" (aftermarket) item was working about the same! (So, obviously, it is/was probably not the interior unit.) Behavior: a small number of puny ice cubes made only ever few days.
I have since noticed: minor dripping from the water inlet valve -- ONLY when the waterline is "open". (Hardwood floor under the fridge was beginning to swell slightly -- eek! But since I turned the needle valve off, the dripping has stopped, the floor dried out, and seemed to return to normal. So: water damage averted.)
So: should I replace the water inlet valve?
