whirlpool duet dryer keeps blowing out thermal fuse

    Model Number: wed9600tao
    Brand: Whirlpool
    Age: 1-5 years

i have a whirlpool duet model#WED9600TAO that keeps blowing the thermal fuse. I checked the heating element as per instructions on this site and it appears to be okay. is there a way to check the thermistor to see if it is bad or could it be a thermostat or something else?? can they be tested as well?? thanks

The thermistor part number 8577274 can be ohmed out. This will give you a good idea of whether the part is good or bad, but it does not guarantee 100% that the part is good. With the thermistor pulled out of the dryer, it should read approximately 11.9K Ohms at 70°F and 9.2K Ohms at 80°F. If you suspect the thermistor is bad, we recommend to replace the part.

If the dryer is getting too hot, you could have a bad control board, shorted heating element, bad thermistor, or clogged/restricted venting.

This is the thermistor for your dryer:

    Thermistor Control - Part # PD00002401 (mfg # 8577274)
