[FIXED] Kenmore Refrigerator/freezer not cooling problem

    Model Number: 10674262400
    Brand: Sears Kenmore
    Age: 6-10 years

    Hi
The freezer temperature goes to 20F below 0. Then turn off but doesn't come on until I turn the temperature switch off and on and works only in highest setting even when freezer temp is above 30F.
I replaced defrost timer # 215846602 and I still have the problem.

    Thank You
    Asgeir.

What kind of temperature are you getting in refrigerator section?

The first thing to check is to unplug the refrigerator and remove the back panel in the freezer section. Check to see if the evaporator coil behind that panel is plugged up with frost or ice.

The evaporator coil is clean, no frost or ice.

It sounds like you might have a bad temperature control thermostat. The next time it starts warming up and not cooling, try tapping on the thermostat knob. If this causes the refrigerator to kick back on and start cooling again, then this is a good indicator that the thermostat is bad. Let me know what you find.

This is the thermostat for your model refrigerator:
