Unhappy GE Profile slide in gas range oven doesn't comeon

    Model Number: JGS905SEKSS
    Brand: GE
    Age: 6-10 years

My wife went to bake cookies this morning and the oven wouldn't come on. I've seen some info on the net suggesting the igniter may be the problem. Is there a way to test for that or is there other issues that may cause this? I checked the broiler and that seems to work properly. It looks like ps952863 is the part number for the igniter according to the GE website.

The best way to test this part is with a clamp on style amp meter. Do you have one of those?

Thanks for the reply. I don't have an amp meter. I did remove the oven parts so I can now see the igniter. When the oven is turned on the igniter doesn't glow at all. Is the supply voltage 120 vac? I have a multi-meter so if I can read 120v coming to the igniter when I turn on the oven would that indicate it's bad?

Yes if the igntiter isn't coming on at all, that is another check that you can make. It should receive approximately 120 volts.
