    washer wont fill

    Model Number:
    Brand: Maytag
    Age: 1-5 years

Washer won't fill. Just hear clicking, then it shuts off. If I set it on spin or rinse and soon it will work. Can you tell me what part I might need to order.

Model # MHWZ400TQ02. If I start it on "rinse/spin" cycle, it works fine. It will not do anything but shut down on any wash cycle.

I don't get any codes. Turn on washer, hear clicking for two/three minutes, then washer shuts off. Set it to rinse/spin cycle and it will work fine. Pulled lid off and there is a plastic part with I II III and an arrow that moves thru all three #s but doesn't step. Washer shuts off. Same arrow will stop on II for rinse/ spin. Get power to water intake valve.

If your washing has an option to run a cycle with only cold water, try running it on that and see if it works. On a lot of washers the rinse cycles are cold water only.

Yes, it fills on the rinse cycle. Rinse cycle works perfectly, so does the final spin.

Behind the bottom panel of the washer should be a tech sheet taped to the back side of the panel. This tech sheet has information on how do a diagnostic test with the washer. Let me know the what you find after doing this test.

There is no tech sheet on any panel. Washer fills with cold water on rinse, rinses, fills ,spins perfectly on rinse cycle. It just won't do anything on wash cycle. Just clicks for two minutes and shuts off. Any ideas what part I should order?

The first thing that I would check is to see if the washer is sending 120V to the hot water valve coil. I have a feeling that it could be a bad hot water valve causing the washer not to fill up with hot water. One solenoid on the water valve is for hot water and the other is for cold water. Do you have a volt meter or multi meter that you can make a voltage test with?

This is the water valve for your model washer:

When the hot valve has power does the washer fill with hot water at a steady rate? When the cold valve has power does the washer fill at a steady rate?

The washer will ONLY fill and work properly on rinse cycle and spin cycle. It will NOT fill with hot or cold water on the wash cycle. On the wash cycle, it will click several times and then the washer shuts off.

What I am wanting to find out is if the washer is sending power to the water inlet valve when the washer is not filling up with water but it should be filling up with water.

If there is power going to the water inlet valve(s) when it should be filling with water and it isn't filling with water then you should replace the water valve.
