My Whirlpool cook top burners wont stop heating up!

    Model Number: WFE366LVB0
    Brand: Whirlpool
    Age: 1-5 years

Our pan almost caught fire this morning because the burners on our stove wouldn't stop heating up when they reached the correct temperature. They just kept heating until we turned off the burner and then turned it back on. This to me seems like a thermostat or relay sticking. Does anyone have any ideas? it has done this before and with a different burner. Is this controlled by a thermostat or is it controlled by the electronic control board with some type of thermistor or something? Thanks for any help that anyone can offer.

The temperature is controlled by the burner switch (infinite switch) and a thermal limiter on the burner itself. Is it consistently a problem with the same burner and what temperature setting is it set to?

It is only the two burners closest to me, and it happens when the setting is on medium, and when my wife has been frying on them for an extended amount of time. They will just start heating up and won't stop.

It sounds like the infinite switches are probably bad for both of those burners. The limiter on the burner is just to cycle the burner while it is set on the highest setting.

These are the infinite switches listed for the front burners on your model range:
W10149355 Switch, Infinite (Right Front (Dual))
    W10167742 Switch, Infinite (Left Front)
