[FIXED] Samsung dryer has powerbut won't run

    Model Number: DV448AEP/XAA
    Brand: Samsung
    Age: 1-5 years

Hello, I have a 5 year old Samsung dryer model DV448AEP/XAA, the problem I am having is it will power on and I can rotate thru the cycles, but it will not do anything when I hit the start button, I do not hear any clicks or hum or buzzing.

I pulled the top cover off and the belt is there and is tight so I do not think the belt is broken and the drum spins fine. The light goes out in the dryer when the door is closed so I think the door switch is OK.

My question is what is the chance the thermal switch is causing the problem. I do not get any codes.

Yes it would be a good idea to check the thermal fuses/thermostats on the dryer. There should be one on the blower housing and two on the heating element housing. To check them you should unplug the dryer, remove the wires to the fuse/thermostat and check the part for continuity.

Thanks for the quick response, I will check them on Friday, I wish they gave a code for them so you wouldn't have to check all of them.

Error codes are just a starting point to diagnose the problem. You still have to do testing to determine what part is bad.

Well it was the 85 degree thermal fuse/thermostat, swapped it out in like 30 minutes, found alot of dryer lint that by-passed the filter which possibly restricted air flow causing it to over temp the switch.

    Thanks for your help!

Well that was short lived. After one load the dryer quit again. I guess the thermostat was the effect not the cause. I am thinking the thermistor now. If I remember correctly the resistance was 49 ohms and at room temperature it should be around 10.

That could be a possibility. What part number is the fuse that was bad?

Well the thermistor seem to do the trick, been running 3 days now with no problem, the old thermistor was 74 ohms @ room temp, should have been less than 10.
    Thermistor P/N was DC32-00007A and the thermostat P/N DC47-00016A.
