Maytag top load agitator locks up after spin cycle

Note machine has newer motor and belts

My Maytag LAT9700AAW agitates and spins during the normal washing cycle but afterwards the agitator is locked up. If I tilt the washer to inspect the belts the agitator frees up and moves in both clockwise and counter clockwise directions. Then the washer works through another cycle as it should. Then at the end of a spin cycle the agitator is again locked up.
If I tilt the machine then I'm good to go. Is this happening because the brake assembly has failed and will your 6-2011900 fit the LAT9700AAW?

It may be difficult to diagnose since it is freeing up when you tilt the machine back. On most washing machines the brake is engaged during the agitate cycle to keep the tub from spinning. It could an internal failure in the transmission that is causing it to lock up. When the transmission is turned in one direction is spins the tub and when it is turned in the other direction it agitates. Let us know what you find.
