I have a GE refrigerator in which the ice and the food in the freezer seems to thaw and refreeze a lot. The ice in the icemaker will freeze into a huge blob, and other food (like ice cream) shows evidence that it has thawed and refrozen. This has been going on for a while, but has seemed to have gotten worse, especially with the heat of this summer. I've read other posts about leaking icemakers, but that doesn't seem to fit this case -- a box above the icemaker seemed to have water leak into it and freeze.
In the last few days I put a thermometer probe in the freezer. Most of the time it's 0-5F, but occasionally rises to 25-30F. Yesterday I returned from work, during which the unit had been closed for 12 hours, and it showed 25F. I had to open it to put away groceries, and then it cooled back to normal.
I'm wondering about the defrost thermistor or timer (whichever this model has) allowing the defrost cycle to run too long or hot. Does that make sense? Other ideas? And I have ordered from you before, for my washer.
Thanks,
John S.
