[FIXED] Samsung side by side refrigerator water filter replacement

    Model Number: RS265TDBP
    Brand: Samsung
    Age: 1-5 years

We've just replaced our water filter cartridge for the second time, using a Great Value water filter from Walmart. We found it is leaking, so thinking it was a bad filter, bought another. It continued to leak. We pulled it out and checked the O rings in the housing, as well as the filters. Everything looks fine. It does NOT leak when the filter is out of the receptacle. Any suggestions?

Is the filter the you got from Walmart an aftermarket filter or an original Samsung water filter? Have you tried putting the old water filter in to see if it leaks with that filter?

We didn't notice it for 3 or 4 days, as it was just a big drip. By then, we had tossed the old water filter out in the garbage. We're undecided as to whether we need a new $75 housing or buy ANOTHER new filter...Samsung this time. We didn't know if anyone else had trouble with the offbrand that we had bought.
    Thanks for your response.

Follow-up for anyone else having a filter problem.
After trying 2 Great Value water filters that listed the correct model number on the package, which resulted in water leakage, we bit the bullet and bought the $50 Samsung brand of filter. Problem was solved - it did not leak. Upon closer inspection, the fitting that inserts into the refrigerator on the Great Value brand was designed slightly different, so it did not fit the housing correctly. Buyer beware.

Thank you for the update, I have updated the status of this thread to FIXED. We have seen bad luck with many different aftermarket water filters, so we recommend to purchase the OEM filters.

Here is a link to the original Samsung water filter for this refrigerator in case anyone else needs it:
