    whirlpool duet dryer overheating

    Brand: Whirlpool
    Age: 1-5 years

    Hi , my whirlpool duet dryer is overheating an keeps blowing my thermal fuse. It will heat in all cycles including the air cycle, I have changed the thermositior ,heating element. Checked an cleaned all air vents an dryer , still getting hot , could it be thermostat? I need some suggestions please help!!!

    Try running the dryer on the air dry cycle and check to see if it still heats during this cycle. Let me know what you find.

    Thanks for the help Ryan, the heat still comes on in the air cycle

    Most often when the dryer heats during the air cycle, it is caused by a failure of the main control board. The main control board is what sends power to the heating element and sometimes when it fails it will constantly send power to the heating element. Before replacing the main control board you should check the heating element to see if it is shorted. See the instructions in the video below for how to test for a shorted element. When the heating element stays on constantly it can overheat and warp the element causing it to short. A shorted element can also ruin the control board and cause the dryer to constantly heat. While the dryer is apart is it also a good idea to look over the wiring to make sure you don't have any burned or broken wires that are shorting. Let us know how the repair goes.
