    Whirlpool Refrigerator--Freezer frosting up

    Model Number: W8RXNGMWD0L
    Brand: Whirlpool
    Age: 1-5 years

I have a Whirlpool Refrigerator with the freezer on the top. The back wall of the freezer is frosting up and the food compartment is not cooling properly. I thawed it once, but it frosted up again within the week.
What do you think could be the problem?

Your Refrigerator is not going into its defrost cycles, which affects its cooling ability.
You can check the defrost heater, and the bi-metal defrost thermostat for continuity. (Bi-metal must be checked while cold.) These are located in the freezer. Unplug the refrigerator. Remove the icemaker, if applicable, and remove the 1/4 inch screws from the back panel and remove.
Unplug the wire disconnect located in the top left corner, and make checks with a Volt Ohm Meter (OHM) for continuity.

I checked the defrost heater and bi-metal defrost thermostat. They were OK.

If those were both ok, then the defrost control board is bad.

This is the part for your refrigerator:
    Defrost Control Board - Part # PD00002687 (mfg # 4388931)

It is located in the food compartment. Remove the 1/4 inch screw near the light to gain access to the housing that holds the timer.
It is also a good idea to replace the bi-metal thermostat at the same time, Part # PD00002717 (mfg # 2321799)

Good luck and have a great day!
