Maytag Bravos making high pitched "whine" when filling up with water.

    Model Number: MVWB850WQ0
    Brand: Maytag
    Age: 6-10 years

When our washer is filling with water espically after initial fill it makes a high pitched noise. The basket and drum are not moving. Just the water is flowing. What could this be?? Thank you for any help on this matter.

Has the washer always made this noise? Try temporarily quickly turning off the hot and cold water supply to the washer at the wall one at a time to see if that stops the noise.

No the washer has not always made the noise. The noise is so loud that it can be heard in other rooms of the house. Yes it did stop when I turned off the water supply valves at the wall box.

Try turning the water supply to the washer off and then removing both of the fill hoses to the washer and spray them into the tub of the washer one at a time. Sometimes a plumbing problem can cause the noise. Do you have the factory fill hoses on the washer? We have seen some of the special fill hoses that are supposed to shut off automatically if a hose burst cause this type of an issue. Also, sometimes a failure of the water inlet valve on the washer will sometimes cause this noise. Let us know what you find.

This is the water inlet valve for your model washer:
