[FIXED] Maytag Neptune dryer will not start

    Model Number: Mde5500ayw
    Brand: Maytag
    Age: 6-10 years

    Hello, need some help!
Went to throw a load in the dryer, would not start. Control panel life up fine!
Put the dryer in service mode, pulled a 01 code of the display! I replaced
the thermistor & the thermal fuse next to it. Cleaned all the lint off the
Inside on the sensor! Put it back together and still giving me the 01 code!
Don't know what my next step should be.
Thank you for any help you guys can give!!

Have you tried clearing the error code to see if the error code comes back and make sure that isn't an old code?

Thank you for your reply! I figured the problem out & got it fixed today!
My wife is smiling drying clothes as I post this reply! It bothered the heck out
of me the other night after the dryer would still not run. I got home from work
& did some more testing! It was the high limit thermal fuse! The problem?
I noticed the heater tube looked funny so I took it out of the dryer & there
it was! The heating element was sagging inside of the tube creating a dead
short! Straightened the element out & cut 2 thin pieces of porcelain tile
to slide under the heating elements so they can't touch the tube!

Thank you for the update, I have updated the status of this thread to FIXED. If the heating element sagged and shorted then that is usually an indication of poor airflow. Check the dryer and exhaust venting for lint build up and restrictions. Also, once an element has shorted it is usually compromised and will eventually fail. Keep and eye on it as it may need to be replaced.
