    Water in washing machine drum

    Model Number: MAH5500BWW
    Brand: Maytag
    Age: 6-10 years

After completing a washing cycle, a few inches of water will fill up in drum in my Maytag Neptune. No water when cycle is complete but next morning, water. I was reading other post with the issue and it seems I need to replace the water inlet valve, does this sound correct?

Yes, this problem is almost always caused by a bad water inlet valve. We recommend to unplug the washer and let it sit overnight, if the water continues to fill up inside the washer with the washer unplugged then the water inlet valve is bad. Let us know how the repair goes for you.

There are two water inlet valves for your model washer depending on the serial number of the washer. If you have any questions, just post up your serial number and I can tell you which one is correct for your washer.

Water Inlet Valve - Part # PD00003086 (mfg # 22003245) (Serial Number starting with 86 or lower except 83)

Water Inlet Valve - Part # PD00003085 (mfg # 22003834) (Serial number starting with 83 or 87 and higher)

Your washer uses part # PD00003085 for the water valve. Each persons skill level is different, so you will need to determine if you think the repair is something that you can handle. On most washers replacing the water valve is not a very difficult repair.

These are the manufactures replacement instructions for your washer:

The water valve is accessible from the front of the machine.

    1. Discontinue power and water to the machine.
    2. Remove the front panel and left the top cover.
    3. Remove the wire harness connections to the water valve solenoids.
    4. Loosen and remove the hose clamps on the inlet hoses leading away from the water valve.
    5. Locate and loosen the valve mounting screw by turning the screw at least three full turns.
    6. Carefully lift the valve with the inlet hoses attached and direct the inlet hoses through the openings in the valve mounting bracket.
    7. The hoses can be crimped or the water shut off at the faucets. Place a towel below the valve and remove the inlet hoses from the water valve.
    8. To reinstall, reverse the aforementioned procedure.

One thing I didn't mention previously is that the serial numbers that use part # PD00003085 also have a 2nd water valve for the dispenser that controls the water for the bleach and fabric softener. Part number PD00003085 is the water inlet valve that controls the water entering into the machine.

This is the water inlet valve for your model and serial number:

    Water Inlet Valve - Part # PD00003085 (mfg # 22003834)
