[FIXED] Maytag dryer displaying HP code after belt replacement

    Model Number: mce8000ayw
    Brand: Maytag
    Age: 6-10 years

I just replaced the belt on this dryer because the drum stopped tumbling. It now tumbles but after running for a few minutes it stops and displays the code "HP". Any thoughts on this? A quick google search seems to indicate that the thermistor is faulty. I should be able to get it out and test it. Any idea what range it should be reading? Thanks for any help or insight you might have on this.

If the dryer didn't display the error previously before the belt was replaced then I would look everything over that was disconnected while replacing the belt to make sure something didn't get missed while reassembling the dryer.

This is the manufactures information on the "HP" error: "The thermistor reading is out of range and the dryer cycle is interrupted. Consumer may push the "Off" Key and attempt to run the cycle again. If the condition persists, a service technician should check for a thermistor malfunction or a wiring problem with the thermistor circuit."

Thanks for the reply. I pulled the front panel off and took out the thermistor. It was a bit dusty so I cleaned it up and measured the resistance and it was around 10k. I put it back in and reassembled everything and it ran fine. Thanks again.
