[FIXED] Grinding noise Samsung washing machine

    Model Number: WA400PJHDWR/AA
    Brand: Samsung
    Age: 1-5 years

I just had to replace the pump in my Samsung washing machine (thanks Parts Dr for the very fast shipment!). Unfortunately, now I have a slightly different problem. My machine makes a grinding noise when it first starts and just finishes spinning.

Everything seems to work fine but the grinding has me worried. Any ideas on what this may be? I'm wondering if the pump damaged something else when it fell apart.

How long does the grinding noise last for?

It kind of sounds like it might be the drain motor part number PD00022783 that is making the noise. I believe this motor is used to engage/disengage the clutch.

Ok. I've now replaced the drain motor as well. The noise is still there. In fact, it's getting to be more often and for a longer duration. I think it's time to call in a repairman to fix this before it dies completely.

I'm sorry, I forgot to get back on with an update.

We had the repairman out and he determined that we had a bad motor. He fixed that under warranty and now it doesn't grind. However, I get constant dc errors now so new damper rods are on the way from PartsDr.

In any case, this post can be marked as fixed.

Thank you for the update! Do you know if it was it the drain motor or the drive motor that was bad?

It was both. I replaced the drain motor because it has totall grenaded. I then had the repair guy replace the drive motor because it was still under warranty. The noise was directly related to the drive motor though.

As a side note, this washer is a mess. We've had it for 4 years and have now had to replace the drain motor, the drive motor and the damper rods. It's also one of the models that Samsung says can explode.
