Thread: Samsung dryer not heating and shutting off after a couple mins.

Cool Samsung dryer not heating and shutting off after a couple mins.

    Model Number: Dv5471aew/xaa
    Brand: Samsung
    Age: 1-5 years

My dryer started out no longer heating a few days ago, then started shutting off after a couple mins of running.
I read through some of the threads here, looked like it could have to do with the lint vent. I removed it from the back of the dryer to see if that was the problem first- no go.

The dryer starts at 1:18, then when it gets to 1:16 it jumps to 1:00 and shuts off.

    Where do I start?
    Thanks in advance!
    C-

Are you running the dryer with wet clothes in it? On the sensor dry cycles it will advance the time and shut down the cycle early if there are not any wet clothes in the dryer.

Tried it again with wet clothes- didn't realize the dryer was smart enough not to run it the clothes were dry- (nifty).
It will run a cycle- but not heating so the clothes aren't actually drying.
    Heating element?

I've been drying my clothes out on a line which has been awesome- but- winter will be here soon- so,need to get this fixed.
    Thanks,
    Cindy

    Hi Cindy,

If the dryer is running but not heating it can be caused by a few different things. First, verify that the dryer is receiving approx 240v AC. If the dryer has proper power then you will need to unplug and disassemble the dryer and test the heating element, thermostat, and thermal fuses for continuity. Most of the time one of the fuses or heating element is bad. If one of the thermal fuses is blown then you will also need to determine what caused the dryer to overheat and caused the fuse to blow. If you just replace the fuse it will most likely end up with a blown fuse down the road. Let us know what you find.
