Whirlpool Dryer not spinning and makes a humming sound

    Model Number: LEN2000LW0
    Brand: Whirlpool
    Age: More than 10 years

    My dryer will not spin and just makes a humming sound. looked on line and sounds like it is a capacitor issue. Looked and the parts break down and I can not find a capacitor in the parts list or diagrams. Questions are;
1- is the capacitor part of the motor and can I test it somehow.
2- does this mean i have to replace the motor
3 - is there a capacitor that is part of the motor that i can replace with parts from a electronics store ant what do I look for

The motor does not use a capacitor.

Try turning the drum in the correct direction by hand.
    It should turn fairly easily.
You may want to try this on a couple other units to get a feel for it.

    If it does.
Open the door and push the start button, does the heater come on?
Do not do this for too long or you will blow the thermal cutoff (fuse).
Also be careful just in case the drum starts up.
    There should be no heat.
If there is is is an indication that the centrifugal switch is in the activated position.
It may be broken or the motor may be just clogged solid with lint.

If it turns easile and there is no heat when the motor is not turning then odds are that the motor need replacing.
I would check the wiring to it before odering anything just to be sure.

    denman,
I think it was the clogged with lint.

Before your reply I took it upon my self,

OK so I took the whole thing apart and vacuumed the heck out of it. cleaned the guide wheels, the back and the (vent inside and out). I thought it looke dvery clean. I decided th blow out the motor wioth some compressed air through the motor and wow more dust cane out than I would have thought possible.

Works like a charm and sounds like it is rotating with less effort also, almost like new.
