Samsung dryer DV220AEWXAA keeps blowing thermal fuse. What could be the problem?

    Model Number: DV220AEWXAA
    Brand: Samsung
    Age: 6-10 years

    Hey Guys,

I have a Samsung dryer Model # DV220AEWXAA. The dryer is 7 years old. A few weeks ago the thermal fuse blew out causing no heat in the dryer. I used a leaf blower to make sure the entire venting system is cleaned out. I also cleaned the blower motor blades. replaced the thermal fuse and the dryer worked for about a week then blew again. I ordered another one from Samsung parts and replaced it. Same scenario, it worked for a week then blew again. I finally decided to replace the high limit thermostat as well as the thermal fuse and the thermistor last week. The dryer worked for about 3 days then, no heat again. I am frustrated and flabbergasted as to what could be causing the thermal fuse to blow. I also checked the make sure that the heating element is not shorted and making a connection to the housing. Please Advise.

I'm having the exact same issue in the exact same model that is exactly the same age! I've checked the thermal cutoff fuse, thermistor, high temp switch, cleaned all vents, checked the breaker, I'm getting 220v to both legs of my relay, it is currently heating again. The new issue today is it still heats on air fluff

I recently replaced the control board, and the result was the same. After 1 week again, another thermal fuse blown.

Have you checked to see if the heating element is shorted?

Yes, I verified the heating element is not grounded to the casing or chassis!

When you run the dryer on an air dry only cycle does the dryer heat up?

The thermal fuse is still blown. So no. Dryer hasn't worked in weeks.

What about the felt drum seals or the blower/heating element seal inside the drum.?

The drum seal looks fine in your picture, but I can't see the blower seal. Are you 100% sure the exhaust venting on the dryer is good without any restrictions? A leaf blower isn't going to do much good for cleaning out a dryer vent.

The vent is clear. Very forceful hot air coming out of it when running. I will take a video of both seals this afternoon and upload it.

Thank you for the video! It is normal for there to be a small amount of play in the drum where the drum seals. Everything looks normal to me there. The next thing I would check is to see if the dryer heats up during an air dryer (no heat) cycle. Some people will temporarily bypass the fuse while they run this test. Definitely don't run the dryer for more than a minute or so with the fuse bypassed as it is a fire hazard.

What about the heating vent seal? I can push the top part of it back and stick My finger in there. But cannot do it on the bottom of it.

Got a question about the thermal fuse. I noticed all of the replacements that have been sent to me is model # KSD301T 10Amps 160 celsius. I noticed the original part # that was taken out was PTS-17 which is rated for 250VAC 25Amps 170c. Could the fuse be blowing because it is underated? I believe the heating element in the dryer draws between 15 to 20amps which would make sense. Your thoughts?

Where are you seeing the temperature and amp rating printed on the fuse?
