Exclamation Need help removing water filter housing

    Model Number: ED2FHEXVS02
    Brand: Whirlpool
    Age: 6-10 years

I tried to replace my water filter today, and when I was installing the new filter it got completely stuck about 3/4 of the way in. I've noticed the last couple times it had been getting increasingly difficult to remove and replace the filters. The new one is completely stuck, like no movement in any direction, even with pliers. I ordered a new filter housing (see picture), and tried to remove the old housing, but this is where I'm stuck. I cannot remove the two tubes that go into the housing (see the other picture). I know the connection is something where I'm supposed to push in on the gray part, while pulling the tube, but I can't get it to budge at all. Plus one of the gray pieces looks like it's disconnected anyway.

Any suggestions on how to get the tubes to release? There's some slack with those tubes, so what if I cut them as close to the housing as possible, would I still be able to use them with the new housing unit? If that's an option, would water start coming out right away? The new part doesn't come for a week, so I don't want to have my water off the entire time, but I hate having the bottom of the fridge exposed because I have a young son in the house.

    Thank you in advance!!

Yes you should be able to cut them off.

Be sure to mark them so you know which is which.

Also use a sharp knife and check that there are no burrs on the outside of the tubing before installing your new filter assembly.

Thank you Denman! A couple follow on questions:

    1) Shouldn't I use scissors instead of knife? Concern is not being able to get enough leverage since I have to reach for the tubes, meaning getting a clean cut would be tough.

    2) What is mean by "burrs" on the outside of tubing? I apologize if this is obvious.

    Scissors may crimp the pipe.
By knife I meant somethig really sharp like an Exacto

Burrs are just peices of plastic or a small ridge on the pipe.
