[FIXED] Drying time out of whack

    Model Number: mede400xw0
    Brand: Maytag
    Age: 1-5 years

I recently replaced the belt, pulley wheel, and rollers due to an unknown noise
    http://forum.partsdr.com/showthread....ag-Dryer-noise

The noise is gone, but now I have another issue I never had before...

When I put the clothes in, I always put it on normal dry which shows a time of 40:00

Once it gets to 36:00, it then goes to 16:00. It never skipped this much before and never happened prior to me replacing parts. I'm wondering if this is another failed part or I put something back together incorrectly.

    Appreciate any assistance.

    Thanks.

On the normal cycle it using the moisture sensor to adjust the cycle times. If there are no wet clothes in dryer it will progress the cycle faster to save energy.

This behavior did not exist prior to me taking the dryer apart.
If I choose timed dry at 40 minutes, it works fine
Normal dry skips the minutes with the clothes still being wet.

I will just set it on timed dry.

Did you check to see if the wires to the moisture sensor were reconnected properly?

Just to add to Doc Ryan's post.

The moisture sensor is the two metal strips by the lint filter.

When clothes are wet, moisture is between the bars.
This provides a current path (resistance) and the small current that results tells the dryer that the clothes are wet and to keep on drying.

When the clothes are dry there is no moisture (infinite resistance) and therefore no current and the dryer advances.

So if you accidentally disconnected one of the strips the unit thinks that the clothes are dry and advances.

Where does one check to see if the sensors were reconnected properly?

I am not 100% sure about this.

    Remove the lint filter.
Then on the inside of the dryer remove the 3 screws that hold the filter grill on.
Carefully remove the grill and check that there is a wire attached to each metal strip.

Well this is strange... I took the lint cover apart and noticed that the cable was unplugged.
I connected it and ran a test cycle. It does the same time skipping...

Did you have wet clothes in the drum when you ran the test cycle?

I did not. That will be the next test

Happy to report that putting in a load of wet clothes caused the dryer to work normally.

Plug that was not connected did the trick.

    This issue is closed
