    Ice Maker Problem

    Model Number: GS2SHAXMB00
    Brand: Whirlpool
    Age: 6-10 years

I replaced the emitter boards since the previous boars blinked 2x then pause then blinked 2x. I close the flap on the left side and the lights blinked 2x versus a steady light. The ice maker will not make ice now. The emitter board seems to work, but I see no water or hear water running into the ice maker. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Is the water flow at the water dispenser working good?

Sometimes if another component on the refrigerator fails, it can cause the optic control boards to fail. I have seen shorted water valves do that on these refrigerators before. If the ice maker is not filling up with water, it could be a few different things. The ice maker could be bad, the water fill tube could be frozen (if frozen, you need to thaw out, and then replace the water valve because it is seeping), or the water valve could be bad. With the refrigerator unplugged, remove the water line that feeds the ice maker. Blow through this line; if you cannot blow through it then the line is frozen. Thaw it out and replace the water valve. If that is good, then you can ohm out the coils on the water valve the coils should ohm out around 300-1500 ohms if they are good. Just because the coils on the water valve ohm out okay, does not mean the valve is good. You can still have an internal failure in the valve that won't show up on the meter. Please let me know if you have any other questions, and let us know how the repair goes for you.

Yes, water does flow from the water dispenser. I have a voltage detector will that work to check the valve solenoids?

Check to see if you can do this. I can't remember if the spade terminals are different sizes or not. Unplug the refrigerator, and swap the wires around from the ice maker and water dispenser valve. Plug the refrigerator back in. Press the water dispenser paddle for about 8 seconds. This will apply power to the water valve and fill up the ice maker with water if the valve is working correctly. When you are done testing this, unplug the refrigerator and swap the wires back around so you don't end up with a mess.

The terminals are different size so no go on that test. Would I have to get a electric voltage meter to check the ohms?
