Kenmore Dishwasher barely fills up with water

    Model Number: 665.17019402
    Brand: Sears Kenmore
    Age: 6-10 years

Hi, we just purchased a house and the dishwasher only fills with a little bit of water when you start a cycle. After you start the cycle and it fills up with water you can't see any water sitting in the bottom and it won't even wash the soap out of the dispenser. What would cause this?

From the way you describe the problem, it sounds like the water inlet valve is clogged up and not letting the dishwasher fill up with enough water. I would also check the water line to the dishwasher, just turn off the water and disconnect it and flow it into a bucket or a towel to make sure they water pressure to the dishwasher is good. Always shut off the power to the dishwasher before working on it.

Here is a blog post we wrote describing what to look for on the water valve to see if it is bad.

I took the valve off and looked inside and it was full of stuff in the screen. I am ordering a new valve, thanks for the help!
