Circuit Breaker versus Unplugging an Appliance

I'm guessing this might sound like a dumb question to most people, but I'm a novice at this.

Is there any real difference between turning off the circuit breaker for the power and unplugging an appliance?

I have an older Whirlpool side by side Refrigerator/Freezer that I may have to replace the Optics Control Board to repair the Ice Maker.

Moving the Refrigerator/Freezer to get to the plug is much more difficult than it is to just flip the circuit breaker.

If there really isn't any difference then I would prefer to flip the breaker, but if there is a difference I can go through the hassle of moving the Refrigerator/Freezer.

    Thank you.

    Steve

Flipping the breaker just disconnects the power.

Unplugging the unit disconnects the power, Neutral and ground.

For most repairs it should not make a difference as long as you are sure that the correct breaker is flipped.

I have seen cases where people flipped a breaker but the appliance was still live, usually due to a mislabeled breaker box.

Thank you. I had the breaker marked correctly. The repair of the board went smoothly. Although the 6th Sense light has been on a while now. I am hopeful that will turn off on its own soon.

    Take care and regards.
