Thread: HELP! Can't find part number

    GE Freezer not defrosting

    Model Number: PFCS1NJXBSS
    Brand: GE
    Age: 2010

So every 2-4 months my evaporator fan in the freezer fan stops blowing because of ice build up. At that point the freezer stops cooling and anything inside it begins to defrost. I typically take everything out, take off the panel, clear the ice on the coils, and everything works fine again.

This is becoming a hassle so I've been researching the issue. It seems that it is usually a defrost timer that is the culprit. However, I can't find a defrost timer in my user manual or anywhere online for this model.

Is it possible my fridge doesn't have a defrost timer? If not, how does it know when to start/stop defrosting?

You unit does not have a defrost timer.
Defrost is controlled by the control board at the back of thye unit.

I cannot find info specific to this unit. Hopefully the below unit is close to yours.
    31-9215.

You will have to try and force a defrost cycle.
When the fans are running forcing a defrost will shut them off.

If it does not start a defrost you need to check the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat for resistance.
If both are Ok then odds are that the control board is shot.
Not6e that on some GE's the temperature sensor (thermistor) also plays a part on when a defrost will happen.

With a little luck someone else will jump in with help specific to this unit/model.

When testing the heater/thermostat resistance what values are considered "OK" ??? Where can I find that data?

I am not 100% sure on the following but the values shouldbe the same as in the unit link I gave.

    Thermistor values on page 40
    Defrost heater about 30 ohms.
Defrost thermostat 0 ohms when cold
