Kitchenaid superba oven turn on, on its own. nothing displayed in control display

    Model Number: KGSC308LSS0
    Brand: KitchenAid
    Age: 6-10 years

My kitchenaid superba KGSC308LSS0 is acting up. it could be possessed.
last friday my wife and kid was at home doing their normal home stuff, and suddenly my wife noticed that the house was getting way too hot with no apparent reason.
She noticed that the oven was on but nothing was displayed on the control display.
Since there was nothing displayed on the screen there were no mean to shut it down..
She got scared and called the Fire department.. Those busy brave man came into my house and unplugged and shut the gas off. I felt really bad..
After all the fiasco I went online and did some research on my own...
Some say is the thermostat some say its the relay on control board. if it is the relay would I be able to swap the relay part only or do I need to replace the entire control board?
Can anyone advice me a proper way to fix my possessed Range/Oven?
I am scared because no one or my kids could be home alone and this could happen...

Thank you in advance for your help guys!!

Sorry for taking so long to answer but I was hoping someone who has actually seen this problem on this model would jump in.
This is a complicated stove so may be best left to the pros.

Below is a manual although it is not for this particular model it does give you an idea of the complexity.
Your unit has a glass display/keyboard assembly, a control board and a microcomputer board where this unit just has a display and a control/microcomputer board so yours is even more complex.

I cannot see this being an oven sensor problem.

It sounds more like a microcomputer board problem.
Since something had to close the oven relay I would replace the board.

Please note this is just a guess.
My thinking is that if it was the control panel or control board you should have seen some indication on the display that the oven was heating.
I am assuming that when you say "nothing was displayed on the control display", that the display was on but looked as if the unit was in standby/off.
Since the problem is very intermittent and is a safety issue it may be best to replace the unit.

Did you have any other electrical problems in the house that day?
I am thinking perhaps a spike on the line caused this.
If nothing else I would get an appliance surge protector for the nit.

Also I would contact Whirlpool as this is a safety issue.
