    Ice maker dumping water

    Model Number: RFG298HDRS
    Brand: Samsung
    Age: 1-5 years

Problem 1) The top ice maker will not stop running water. It is a constant flow and had to turn off at inlet. Does the whole ice maker unit need replaced to get the water to stop?

Problem 2) Prior to problem one, water has begun to pool in the bottom of the freezer and turns to ice. Eventually it leaks out, any suggestions?

I don't think problem number one and problem number two are related. It sounds like problem number 1 might be a bad water inlet valve. To check for you this, I would unplug the refrigerator, and turn the water supply to the refrigerator back on. If the water continues to leak into the ice maker then you have a bad water inlet valve.

For problem number 2, I would check the defrost drain. Behind the panel in the back of the freezer there is a drain underneath the evaporator coil. Make sure that drain is not clogged or iced up.

Let me know what you find.
