Dryer heating element - broken or not

    [b]Model Number: WED 4815
    [b]Brand: Whirlpool
    [b]Age: about 5 years

    Hello,

my dryer is not heating, so at one point I took out the heating element and tested it with an Ohm meter, like in the video from partsdr.

As you can see in the pictures, in the first one I get a reading on the Ohm meter, as I should, but in the second picture I get no reading. The difference in the two pictures is that in the first picture I put the contacts from the tester on the ?outside connector? of the healing element and in the second picture I put the contacts of the meter directly onto the coil.

Now why would one way give me a positivie reading, i.e. the heating element is still working, whilst the second approach says, the heating element is broken?

    Could anyone help me please?

    Many thanks, Richard
