My Whirlpool duet washer has the same problem of filling with water in the mornings

    Model Number: GHW9400PW0
    Brand: Whirlpool
    Age: 6-10 years

Found you on the Internet and very thankful I did. I guess it is my water valve that needs to be replaced. Could you please help me with the part number I need to replace it and how to do it. I will have my son help me fix it IF it is not that difficult.
The pictures really help me as well as the instructions.
    Thank you.

Replacing the water valve is pretty easy, I would say 2/5 in difficulty. Let me know how the repair goes for you, and if you have any other questions.

Here are instructions on how to replace the part:

    1. Unplug the washer and turn off the water supply to the washer.
    2. Remove the top panel by removing the 3 screws and then sliding the panel back and lifting it up.
    3. Remove the hot and cold water inlet hoses.
    4. Remove the clamp and small hose from the outlet of the water valve.
    5. Remove mounting screw
    6. Remove old leaking valve, and replace with new valve.
    7. Reinstall in the reverse order

This is the water valve for your washer:

My Whirlpool duet washer GHW9150PW0 has the same problem of filling with water when the washer is not turned on. However, it also fills with water when both the hot and cold water valves to the machine have been shut off. Does that still sound like a water inlet valve problem or something else?

In some rare cases water backing up from the drain can fill up the tub of the washer. There is a check ball in the bottom of the tub of the washer that normally stops this from happening.
