Frigidaire front loading dryer not stopping in automatic mode

    Model Number: FDG5446RES2
    Brand: Frigidaire
    Age: More than 10 years

I have a Frigidaire FDG5446RES2 front loading dryer. The dryer will heat up but in “AUTO” mode it will not shut off. In timer mode it will advance and shut off. There is heat in the dryer initially, but seems to go away later. I've cleaned out the dryer (lint trap, cleaned rear vent tube, removed the front dryer panel and cleaned out the inside (there was a lot of lint through the venting system).

At this point, I am not sure which part to replace (Gas Value Solenoid/Coil, or the two Cycling Thermostats). As I remember, this happened about 4 years ago and I had to replace the Gas Value Solenoid. Thank you for your help.

I think the model number you meant FDG546RES2? If the dryer is not heating up correctly then it will not advance through the AUTO mode correctly. Most commonly if the dryer is heating up at the beginning of the cycle, but stops heating later in the cycle, then we most commonly see the gas coils causing that type of problem. There are not many other parts on the dryer that would cause it to act this way, there is a possibility that you may have another part acting up intermittently.
