GE Refrigerator Fan Turns On When You Thump It

    Model Number: GTS18GBRERWW
    Brand: GE
    Age: 6-10 years

The serial number for my refrigerator is HG815759. The fan quits blowing in the freezer portion. It turns on when you thump it. What part do I need to fix it?

    Larry,

The most common thing that will cause a refrigerator to act like this is the cold control thermostat going bad. The cold control tells the freezer fan and compressor when to turn on/off. Often when the cold controls start to get old and wear out, the contacts inside of them go bad and they don't always make a good connection. That's why if you bump it, it jolt it just enough to start making a good connection and start working again for a little bit. Next time it stops running, try tapping/wiggling the cold control knob, if this causes it to start working again then you will want to replace the cold control.
