    Ignitor Question

    Model Number: MGR5770BDW
    Brand: Maytag
    Age: More than 10 years

    If an ignitor lights but the burner doesn't ignite, can the ignitor still be defective? My top ignitor lights and the broiler comes on but the bottom ignitor lights but the burner won't ignite.

    Yes, that is the most common failure that an oven ignitor will have. Over time the ignitor will wear out and not glow as hot as it used to. If the ignitor does not draw enough amps then it will not open the gas valve as a safety precaution. If you have a clamp on style amp meter you can test the amp draw of the ignitor to see if it is bad or not. Let me know how the repair goes for you.
