I just read about common problem with start device, I do hear a click from time to time that is new and never happened when it was working properly.

    Thanks Eddie

    Eddie,

When the start device on the compressor goes bad, the compressor will not run at all and you will hearing clicking noise come from the start device/overload on the compressor every few minutes. When this happens the refrigerator & freezer will not cool down at all and both sections will start to warm up. Here is how you can check the start device. Unplug the refrigerator and remove the start device (make not of where the wires went), the back piece is the start device and the white piece is the overload. With the old start device detached, you can use an ohm meter to measure the resistance to see if it is good or bad. Plug the probes from the ohm meter into the two the two holes where it went onto the compressor, you should get a reading of 6-8 ohms on a good start device. Anything that is far off from that is bad. Another quick test you can do is to shake the start device, if it rattles a lot, or if you start to get small specks of grey/black stuff coming out of the start device then it is usually bad.

I will need the last two digits on the model number to determine which start device your refrigerator needs. You will find this on the model/serial number tag located in the refrigerator section.

The last 2 digits on model number are 00 . I already removed the start device and found it to be burnt & broken up inside, the single red wire overload looks to be ok, the white & blue wires leading to the failed unit & terminals on compressor look ok also.

Definitely sounds like the start device is bad.

This is the start device kit for your refrigerator. It includes the start device and overload.

That's what I was going to pick up today, looks like it replaces old part number 2213105. I hope it is an upgrade as the old one looks like it could have started a fire in the plastic cover, it was burnt & metal parts came out in pieces.

    Thanks Eddie
