door won't latch, A friend told me I need a $75. dollar part. can you help?????

First check to make sure the door strike isn't broken (the piece on the door that goes into the door latch). If the door strike is good, then the door latch assembly will need to be replaced. Also make sure the door strike is lining up correctly with the door latch, sometimes the door hinge can be loose or cracked/broken and that will cause the door strike not to line up with the door latch properly.
