samsung dryer runs for roughly a minute and shuts off

    Model Number: dv210aew
    Brand: Samsung
    Age: 1-5 years

Our dryer will run for only about a minute on timed dry and it turns off. "off" reads on the display. The dryer is making heat while it is running. I checked the vent outside and it is clear. Seems to be a heat buildup issue or something as after it turns off, if you turn it on and start it again, it will not run for more than a few seconds... If you let it sit for 20 minutes or so it will run for a minute before turning off... Please advise.

    Thanks,
    Tom.

Does it do this even if you put the dryer on a timed dry cycle?

This could be caused by a bad motor or a bad main control board. This person had very similar symptoms and the problem was fixed by replacing the motor. It is very difficult to test to see which part is bad. You would essentially have to test to see if the control board is sending power to the motor when the motor should be running. Since the dryer shuts off and won't let you restart it for about 20 minutes that leads me to believe that the motor might be shutting down because it overheats and then lets you start it again after it cools down. Let us know what you find.

These are the parts for your dryer:

    Drive Motor - Part # PD00002039 (mfg # DC31-00055D)

    Main Control Board - Part # PD00002058 (mfg # DC92-00123C)

Ok. Thanks. My wife scrubbed the moisture bars with scotch brite and the dryer has run 2 full 40 min timed dry cycles without issue. Hopefully it keeps running. If not i will know where to work next.

Can someone explain how the moisture sensors work?

    Thanks,
    Tom

The moisture sensor bars just sense when wet clothes rub against them and how many times that happens. If this were the problem, it should not have kept you from restarting the dryer after it stopped.

We are having a similar problem: dryer runs for nearly a minute and then shuts down. Repeated starting results in a ten-second run and a burning smell. Display throws no code and timer keeps counting down.

We took it apart, cleaned and vacuumed everything and then tested: motor, thermistor and heat unit, thermal fuse all have continuity. Also, motor actuator spins freely.

After cleaning and putting everything back together, same problem. Help, please?

It sounds like the motor is overheating and tripping it's internal thermal protect.

Try turning the drum by hand in the correct direction.
    It should turn fairly easily.
You may want to try this on a couple other dryers to get a feel for it.

If it is hard to turn then that may be causing the motor to overheat.

If it turns OK then odds are that the motor needs replacing.

Thanks for you quick response. Now, another question: how do I fix it if the drum is hard to turn? Replace drum rollers?

I am not sure about your model number.

Yes if it uses drum rollers then they could cause the problems.
Check that they spin easily and are not worn (this includes their shafts.

Also check the drum seals, the glide pads on the front supports, the drum itself to ensure it is not cracked.

We got a substantial amount of gunk off the back wall and impacted lint off the glide pads; the drum now turns smoothly... but the same problem exists. Quite possibly the motor changeout is next...

    thanks for all your help!
